Coming Soon: New Online Energy Infrastructure Master’s Program

UW CEE is pleased to announce a new online Master of Science in Civil Engineering: Energy Infrastructure program, which will launch in autumn 2018. With a focus on energy infrastructure, the program will prepare students to plan, design, construct and manage energy related infrastructure projects.

Water Resources Research Editors Honor Erkan Istanbulluoglu’s Research for Significance

A study published by a team of researchers including associate professor Erkan Istanbulluoglu has received the 2015 Editor’s Choice Award by the Water Resources Research (WWR) journal. The award is reserved for the top 1% of articles, recognizing the most significant studies published in the journal.

Research Advises Policy Recommendations to Address Future Water Shortage for Major U.S. Cities

Led by associate professor Faisal Hossain, a new study analyzing river basins in 42 major cities throughout the United States has determined not only which ones may experience water shortages in the future, but also includes policy recommendations.

Assistant Professor Brett Maurer Joins UW CEE Geotechnical Research Group

The CEE Department welcomes incoming assistant professor Brett Maurer. In addition to teaching, Maurer will be advancing his research on geotechnical earthquake engineering with the goal of reducing the impacts of earthquakes on civil infrastructure, human life and the environment.

Refugee Reconnaissance: Improving Wastewater Treatment During Crisis Response

It’s an oxymoron of sorts: better refugee camps. But despite contradictory terms, a team of CEE researchers is working to improve wastewater treatment systems at refugee camps, which are typically constructed quickly to accommodate people displaced by both natural and man-made disasters.

Disaster Data: $4 Million NSF Grant Funds New CEE-Led Center

The UW has received a five-year, $4.1 million Natural Hazards Engineering Research Infrastructure grant from the National Science Foundation to fund a new disaster investigation center that will be led by CEE faculty.

CEE Students Awarded Beavers Charitable Trust Scholarships

Two UW CEE students have been awarded Beavers Charitable Trust Scholarships. Undergraduates Casey Hoyt and Liz Guilford are recipients of $5,000 scholarships for students who plan to pursue careers in the construction engineering field.

USDOT Awards $14 Million to CEE-Led Transportation Center

The U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded a grant of $3.5 million to a multi-university, regional transportation center led by the University of Washington. The newly established Pacific Northwest Transportation Consortium, or PacTrans, will focus on safe and sustainable transportation in environments ranging from busy urban centers to remote mountainous terrain.

New CEE Center to Work with Industry, City on Delivery Challenges

The newly launched Supply Chain Transportation and Logistics (SCTL) Center has partnered with retailers Costco, Nordstrom and UPS, as well as the Seattle Department of Transportation, to devise solutions to better deliver goods throughout the city. The SCTL is the first center of its kind in the Pacific Northwest.

The annual alumni tailgate on October 22 marked the public launch of UW's campus-wide fundraising campaign "Be Boundless: For Washington, For the World." During the event, alumni were asked to consider matching Georgia Tech's recent CEE department campaign participation rate of 50 percent.
