He exponentially multiplied five years’ worth of modest annual donations, which enabled him to establish an endowment to honor the person he credits with steering him toward his career path.

Laura Lowes appointed new CEE department chair

UW CEE welcomes William M. and Marilyn M. Conner Professor Laura Lowes as the new department chair starting in September. A faculty member since 2000, Lowes is the first female chair of UW CEE.

The UW CEE Steel Bridge Team had a strong finish at the ASCE/AISC Student Steel Bridge Competition- PCN Regionals. Out of 14 teams, they placed eighth overall and took third place in the vertical load testing category.

Concrete Canoe Team claims first place at regionals

The UW CEE Concrete Canoe Team is all a buzz. And it’s not because their theme this year is coffee. The team claimed first place at the ASCE Regional Concrete Canoe Competition in Boise, Idaho, on April 22-23. The team’s fifth consecutive year winning regionals, they will once again compete in the upcoming national competition.

Alumna Deb Niemeier Elected to the National Academy of Engineering

UW CEE alumna Deb Niemeier (Ph.D. ’94) has been elected to the National Academy of Engineering, one of the most prestigious honors in the engineering field. Niemeier is recognized for developing groundbreaking tools to improve the accuracy of estimating regional vehicle pollutants, which impact the health of minority populations that reside in close proximity to highways.
