Ready to make an impact in the Civil and Environmental Engineering community at UW? Transfer students are a vital part of our CEE community, making up over 20% of our department. On this page, you’ll find step-by-step guidance and all the essential resources for a smooth transition into our programs.
Transfer eligibility
To transfer into the UW engineering program, you will need to meet the following requirements:
- You must have completed at least 55 academic credits at the time of your application.
- You must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher.
- You must complete the prerequisite course requirements.
Application deadlines
The civil and environmental engineering majors only allow transfer students to start in the autumn quarter.
Transfer students must submit the general application for the UW before they apply for admission to the College of Engineering. If you miss the UW application deadline, you will not be able to apply to an engineering major.
- December 15: UW transfer applications opens
- February 15: Deadline for UW transfer application
- March 24: Engineering application opens
- April 5: Deadline for engineering application
- Early May: Admissions decisions announced
How to apply
- Submit the UW transfer application. The application consists of:
- Making sure you have completed the coursework requirements for either civil engineering or environmental engineering
- A personal statement
- Sending an official transcript from each collegiate institution previously attended
- An application fee. Note: UW Admissions waives the application fee if you are a U.S. or undocumented applicant with financial need.
- Button: Apply now
- After applying to the UW and receiving your application acknowledgment letter from the UW admissions office, set up your NetID. This process can take several days. You will use this NetID to log in to the College of Engineering online application.
- Submit the College of Engineering major application. The application consists of:
- Personal information (name,contact information)
- Education summary (list of all colleges attended, dates, GPAs and credits).
- PDFs of unofficial transcripts from ALL colleges or universities that you have attended
- Employment summary (list of work experience and dates)
- Major selection page (list of major to which you are applying)
- Course summary page (list of all prerequisites and other relevant classes required for the department. Information already available on your UW transcript will automatically be filled in with options to edit. Additions and deletions can be made at any time while the application is open and before the application is officially submitted.)
- Personal statement for the major you are applying for.
