Erkan Istanbulluoglu received his BS and MS in Agricultural Engineering at Uludag University, Turkey, in 1996 and 1999 respectively; and his PhD in Civil and Environmental Engineering at Utah State University in 2003. He completed a postdoc at MIT's Parsons Lab in 2005. After taking a faculty position at the University of Nebraska with joint appointments at the School of Natural Resource, Biological Systems Engineering, and Geosciences, Erkan joined the University of Washington in the fall of 2009.

Erkan's research is highly interdisciplinary and aims to understand and predict the role of climate and human impacts on the landscape system response including ecohydrology, surface waters, and geomorphology.
